I am really bad about writing reviews

I am really bad about writing reviews, I never get around to doing it, tho I at least always try to rate all the books I read.
But after reading a few negative reviews about this author and her books, I actually felt the need to write this one.
I'm not a nurse, and I don't work directly in the ER, but I do work in the laboratory (and have more than a few friends that deal with the craziness of the emergency room). So for someone who knows how it can be, I think these books are fantastic. I'm actually kind of addicted to all of Kerry's books. I have seen some reviewers talk about her "bad language" or "inappropriate stories", but hello...its "REAL stories from a small-town ER", not "Edited for content stories from a small-town ER". As for privacy, she states in the beginning of all of her books that things are changed to protect the privacy of those involved in any story. The same thing every author does when writing a memoir type book.
Alright, I know this review is now sounding more like a defense for the author, than a review of the book, and I apologize for that. But if you work in a hospital (especially nurses and ER employees), or you love medical memoir stories, then you will love these books! An extremely entertaining, quick read.

Another doozy!!!

As usual, I loved this book. I know you asked for follow-up if any misprint or mistake is found. Near the end of the stories, in the one about the guy who was high on something, and claimed he saw a Minotaur in his bedroom, you stated, or the misprint did that his ETOH level was 10.1. Therefore he was not drunk on alcohol. I thought this was funny, knowing what it should have been......anyway, Kerry, keep the books coming and I will continue to read them, thanks.

KERRY DOES IT AGAIN! WHOO HOO!

These books were SUPPOSED to help me sleep....Not so much! They're too interesting to put down.
I had no idea, nor appreciation for what the "Registration Lady" did, but now, my whole perspective has changed. In fact, although I've been sick a bit, cancers, etc, I've always been cordial to Admissions.
As a retired cop, I've seen the ugliness of many people and I believe my self-professed "Long Fuse" would be snipped to the size of a matchstick. So before you come hell "FIRE IN THE HOLE!" I'd have smacked that teenage Bible Bully upside the head, thus ending a two, three-day maximum career.
Last Sunday, I was Squaded (yes, I made that word up) to a small Ohio Hospital with chest pain and difficulty Breathing.
Unlike our Bible Bullies, I really am a Christian and this happened just as I pulled up too late for church after detours took Mr, I think through Wyoming. The Medic nailed my IV entourage route first try. WOW! That NEVER HAPPENS. I cheered too soon.
The needed a second one for a specific test. 25+ misses. and blown veins later (had to be a 20 gauge, one FINALLY made it in! I have a high pain tolerance, so while three were working at once, I grew USED TO IT!
In report, I was described as 52yo Female, great makeup, very funny. I was very flattered. My point is, sorry, this isn't about me, I got to HEAR a LOT of screaming and yelling while I was being turned into a sieve. (Post note, that 2nd IV was...wait for it...NEVER USED! BWAHAHAHAHAHA!
Poor Kerry, she's underpaid if she's making six figures! No one should take that kind of abuse. At least as a cop, my "customers" we're always wrong and I COULD lose my temper! She has to play nice all the time. Pass the Demerol!
I've never seen anything borderline racist or hear her put someone down, but PEOPLE, YOU TRY AND DO HER JOB! You wouldn't last 5 minutes!
KERRY, I hope these books are great therapy for you and make you piles of cash!
Pray for the too big ascending aortic aneurysm they found, and I just have to wonder " Which hospital do you work in?"

Cultural psychologists and anthropologists.

About the Author
Harry W. Gardiner

 

Professor Emeritus at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, where he designed and taught courses in cross-cultural psychology, child development, humor in education, and international studies for twenty-seven years. His undergraduate degree is from American International College, in Springfield, Massachusetts; his M.A. is from the University of Hawaii; and his Ph.D. is from Manchester University in England. He has engaged in training, teaching, and research in Europe, Asia, and the United States and has traveled to more than seventy countries. Dr. Gardiner was a charter member of the International Association for Cross-Cultural Psychology, served as president of the Society for Cross-Cultural Research, and is a consulting editor for the Journal of Cross-Cultural Psychology. In addition to publishing articles in a wide variety of journals and participating in national and international meetings, he has coauthored more than a dozen chapters on cross-cultural topics for other books.

 

 

Corinne Kosmitzki. 

 

Dr. KosmitzkiI was born and raised in Germany. Her interest in the lives of people led her to study clinical and counseling psychology at the Universität Münster. She earned her Ph.D. in psychology at the University of California at Berkeley. As an international student, she experienced many of the challenges discussed in this book. She has been able to share these experiences with other international students in workshops and seminars held at various universities. After being an active teacher and researcher at universities in Virginia, New Jersey, and Texas, she has returned to California. At the University of California at Berkeley, she continues to work with students and faculty from many different cultural and national backgrounds. Her travel has taken her to most of Western and Eastern Europe and North America

I just got this book from the publisher and have decided to use it for my cross-cultural development class. No other book that I have found does an even remotely adequate job of combining cross-cultural research and human development. Teaching this class should be a lot easier.

Fun reading for a textbook!

I have used this book as a textbook in a sophmore - junior - senior level university course in cross-cultural psychology. It is so readable, that students report that they read ahead just for fun. Recommended for anyone interested in how culture affects our lives.

It's amazing how some stories can bring back memories. This one brought back a memory of girl I knew in high school. Unfortunately there was no billionaire bear to come to her rescue.

Zelda has believed herself to be sick since she was 16. Her adoptive mother told her she had to stay in a penthouse. Her meals were ordered for her. There was a cleaning crew and several others that would all tend to her needs. She didn't want for anything except companionship, love and freedom. That's not to much to ask for....is it?

Lance is approached by Lorelei, a bear shifter, and told that she thinks he would love to meet her daughter. That she is sure they would hit it off well. Lance decides to meet her daughter, Zelda, and he is glad that he has. Zelda is his mate. She has been closely watched and never touched, so he has to figure out how to tell her.

But, everything is not as it seems for Zelda. There have been many secrets kept from Zelda and now she is going to have to figure out just what she wants. She knows she wants Lance, but is she going to have to give up everything else to be with him?

The author keeps mixing up the name Zelda versus Lorelei

So far this is very annoying because the name of Zelda and the mother Lorelei is being mixed up . Come on--- could the author actually reread their books before it goes to print.

The book is OKAY for a lunch break "read". The tone of his books are silly, fun, comical. I was surprised how Lance reacted when Zda needed "time". Zelda did not need to apologize IMHO. It did all work out

I have to say Sadie is gets better and better with this series. I have so loved each and every series. If you have not read any of the books in this series yet do not worry, each book is a standalone. My favorite in the series has been Beauty an the Billionaire Bear until now. I have to say this book rates right up there with that book. I could not help but say “WOW!” through out the book. There is so many amazing parts. Sorry you are going to have to read the book to find out those amazing parts, but trust me you will not be disappointed.

I loved Zelda Woods. She was this beautiful, curvy, intelligent, innocent woman. There was some mystery surrounding her but you will have to read the book to find out. She was one that was sick and could not go outside the penthouse. She hated been cooped up and was so lonely. The main person she saw and did not see much of was her adoptive mother Lorelei.

Lance Asher was this handsome polar bear shifter. He has searched so long for his fated mate. He had to be surprised when he met Zelda. He knew the moment they were introduced that she was his. He just needed to go slow and hoped that she would see it as well.

I loved the interaction between Lance and Zelda. It was something seeing their relationship grow. Knowing they were both falling in love. How will Lorelei Zelda’s adopted mother take the news?

As you get to know Lance you will not be able to help but fall in love with him. He is not only sweet and patient but also very protective. He had a way to swaying with things that he said and done. He was just freaking Yummy!!!!

Difficult to use

I think for an intermediate grammar book it was confusing as it had no English at all and the glossary/dictionary at the end was not very comprehensive. Much prefer the Practice Makes Perfect series by Dorothy Richmond. Happily, my instructor agreed and the class has gone back to that.

I am using this book in a class the size of 6. We meet weekly for two hours, using a Spanish/English first reader to balance the generally easy to follow chapters in this book. Doing two lessons in an hour's time is a challenge but just what my intermediate students need.

This is an absolutely beautiful story. The art is beautiful

This is an absolutely beautiful story. The art is beautiful, the plot is beautiful, it's just nice all the way through. That being said, if I had known what it was, I never would have bought it. It's simply not a Daredevil story. That isn't fair to it, it wasn't intended to be a Daredevil story. Given that, it's hard to fault the story. If you're a completionist, you'll like it because completionists like completing things (isn't that right Taneleer Tivan?). But if you're wondering which Daredevil stories are OK to skip, this one is OK to skip.

I love this comic series, I wanted to read about other super heroes with [dis]abilities and Echo was one that was really close to me. Gorgeous art and a great story.

David Mack is a genius.

Fantastic!

David Mack's unique style transcends the medium. He brings it to the Daredevil series with this amazing book. I'll be honest- I'm not a Daredevil fan and never would have read this book if it wasn't a Mack effort. I love his mixed media, nontraditional style. It may not be for everyone as it is more "artistic" and less traditional comic book. But to me, it's so creative and complex and layered that even this simple story is thrilling.

I want to give a 5 star rating, but ...

I want to give a 5 star rating, but I honestly cannot. Why? I have been crocheting for 40 years and I don't think the directions are clear. I've found that at the end of rounds when you are supposed to turn, it doesn't tell you to. The diagrams are confusing. I will, however, continue on working through the book. If I find the other heads are more clear (I am currently working on on the hare), I will repost.

Not for beginners but the finished products are awesome.

If I reviewed it solely on how much I love the concept and the outcome of my projects, I would want to give it 10 stars if I could. I love the projects I have made. I started with the mouse head, it took me only a few hours to complete. Then I moved on to the lion head, it took me a few weeks because I didn't work on it every hour of every day. They both turned out wonderful. The book has beautiful pictures and a great concept for crochet designs.

Now the reason for the 3 stars. The book is written in UK terms, with no indication that they are UK terms. I figured it out by comparing the photos and the written pattern. If you are going to sell a product in the US, please make sure you indicate that the terms are not in US. Once I figured that out, I was good to go. It's easy to find the conversion online of what the UK term means in US terms if you do not already know. Next, like other reviewers have mentioned, the patterns are not concise and clear. I had to go between the written pattern and the diagram. If you do not know how to read crochet charts, this will be a tough book for you. There are steps in the book that are unclear, I had to frog 10 rows on my Lion because I realized I was doing it wrong. The whole pattern of putting the head together had instructions, however when it came to final assembly, it was basically, figure it out on your own. This book does not have detailed instructions on placement, how and where to attach hair, eyes, nose - shaping of features, it's all very basic instructions and then you are on your own. There are also a lot of references to other patterns so you are jumping around in the book a lot. For example, use this part of the Ram pattern to start the Zebra pattern. It would have been just as easy for them to just reprint it, like they were trying to save ink instead of making you go all over the book just to make one pattern - but that is a pet peeve of mine.

Overall, I love the outcome of the 2 I have made so far, I will continue to make patterns from the book. If the others I make are easier, I may re-assess my 3 star rating. However, I believe the mouse is the easiest in the book and the Lion is probably one of the hardest so I have experienced both ends of the spectrum. I would recommend this book to experienced crocheters. It takes time, and patience for the final product but it is very worth it.

I'm not sure why people are having so many issues with the patterns. They are well written and I'm really enjoying making my zebra head! I would say it's not for beginners, but a seasoned hooker should have no problems,
